If You Think Social Media Does Not Apply to You

Our career strategists hear “Social media doesn’t apply to me” all the time from the senior executives they work with.

If you’re a high-level executive, especially at a large company, this line of thinking is a career error. ExecuNet Career Strategist Harriette Lowenthal shares in this excerpt from a session of ExecuNet Master Class her thoughts on why being involved in social media is necessary for senior executives. Companies are more influential and profitable if their leadership is known and followed on social media. This alone is reason enough to be active on social media, but if you are looking for your next challenge, the people who are going to be involved in hiring decisions will certainly check social media to see how influential you are and if you align with them in terms of fit. If you’re not there, they will be more likely to hire someone who they find is a presence.
