ExecuNet experts featured in Fast Company
There’s a shift happening in the executive ranks.
More seasoned leaders are stepping back into the arena. Not because they failed at retirement, but because they discovered something unexpected:
They’re not done.
In a recent piece in Fast Company, two voices from our own community — ExecuNet Career Strategist Stacie Haller and ExecuNet Coach Mark Brodsky — helped illuminate what many executives are feeling.
One of Stacie’s clients, a former business owner in his 80s, put it simply:
“I’m so vital. I’m still in the game.”
Stacie herself chose not to drift quietly into retirement. Instead, she redesigned her work: part-time, purposeful, and on her terms. As she shared, she’s now “happier in my career than I’ve ever been.”
Mark, at 72, speaks about the value of “scar tissue,” the wisdom earned through decades of leadership.
“Life provides you bumps and bruises, and scar tissue is actually an attribute.”
At ExecuNet, we see this every day.
Some executives return because of financial realities. Others because of boredom. Others because identity and contribution are too deeply wired to switch off.
But the throughline is this: Retirement today is no longer an ending. It’s a transition point.
Work has changed. Flexibility has changed. Longevity has changed. And senior leaders are realizing they have more choices than ever before.
The question is no longer “Should I retire?” It’s “What does my next chapter look like?”
If you’re considering re-engaging, selectively, strategically, and on your terms, we’d welcome a conversation.
