Networking is hard. Networking with the right people is even harder.
The opportunities executives are better off going after are the ones created before there is even a position posted. You want your network to know what problem you solve so they will think of you when they learn someone has that need. Even if you do a great job communicating your value proposition, your network isn’t devoting much time to keeping up with your job search, so make sure you have shared your value proposition in a way that they can share.
ExecuNet career strategist Saundra Botts recommends looking into what companies seem to be having the problem you solve and then work your network to make an appropriate connection at that company.
