The vast majority of executive job seekers cannot define their Value Story.

Sure, they can talk about value they have brought to organizations in terms of everything they have ever done. But that is just their product description. At the executive level, you are not interviewing with other experts at what you do. There is no “the interviewer can connect the dots because they have been doing my job at a higher level” translation working in your favor anymore.

Executives are interviewing with stakeholders, with investors, so they need to be able to talk about what they will make happen if they were hired. Executive job seekers must have the ability to translate what they do to non-experts. That is the Value Story.

Watch ExecuNet career strategists Saundra Botts and Judith Vance talk about this topic during a Fresh Start Q&A session.
