It’s a common and understandable question. Executives are accomplished, highly capable professionals – so why bring in a coach?
Because even top leaders don’t navigate job searches on a daily basis. A coach brings targeted expertise and proven techniques, much like a lawyer provides legal guidance or a barber provides precision in their craft.
When the outcome matters, specialized support makes a difference.
One of the most valuable advantages is perspective. A coach meets an executive for the first time and experiences them exactly as interviewers will – through first impressions, clarity of message, and trust-building. This objective view is often what reveals hidden strengths.
As ExecuNet’s Director of Coaching Services Harriette Lowenthal noted in a recent Q&A, “Coaches may be able to see things about you that you don’t see in yourself.” She shared an example of a client who believed he lacked crisis-management experience. Within minutes, she identified strong examples already present in his background – examples that later became a defining part of his interview narrative.
Executives curious about the value a coach can add will find the perspective shared in this video especially insightful.
