In recent years, a high percentage of Board appointments in public companies went to first-time public Board directors. This is a change from what has been the norm. On the whole, companies are looking for more diversity of experience and background in its Board members. Simply having served on a Board before isn’t as important a qualifier as it used to be. Areas of greater opportunity exist for candidates with experience in technology, AI, cybersecurity, human capital, and risk management.
