Where the Growth in Executive Employment Is Expected to Be in 2020
Our recent surveys of executive recruiters suggests there is an expanding executive employment market in the first half of 2020. This is a sharp rebound from their view just 3 to 6 months ago.
It appears that recruiters were concerned that the long expansion in executive hiring was coming to the end toward the middle to the end of 2019. Now, companies are expanding their efforts to find top executive candidates to meet their expanding talent needs. “The “war for talent” is forcing companies to reach out to recruiters more and more in 2020″, says Mark Anderson, President, ExecuNet.
The chart to the right from our most recent survey shows that executive recruiters picked these top 10 Industry Growth areas for the first half of 2020. Technology and Healthcare continue to reign supreme but interestingly, Venture Capital, Consumer Products and Software moved up sharply in the rankings.
The second chart to the right shows more information from our most recent survey of executive recruiters and what functions they picked as the Top 10 Functional Growth Areas for the first half of 2020.
Business Development continued to reign supreme and the fastest growing function, while Sales for the first time in3 years was not ranked #1 or #2.

Recruiter Confidence Index:
Our ExecuNet’s exclusive Recruiter Confidence Index (RCI) reached 57% in January—up sharply from 39% just 3 months ago. (See Chart 1 to right) And, the number of recruiters who were “not confident” declined sharply from over 25% in July to just 4% in January.
Job Creation Index:
At the same time, ExecuNet’s exclusive executive Job Creation Index (JCI) jumped from 6 in November to over 35 in January—an all time high—indicating that 4 in 10 companies would be searching for executive level candidates in the first half of 2020. (See Chart 2 to Right)
