Kip Tindell, Chairman and CEO of the Container Store and author of Uncontainable, met with ExecuNet’s CMO, Anthony Vlahos, to talk about his views of giving the gift of time. In this excerpt, Kip shared his views on the impact of corporate culture on business strategy.
“My dad and his friends, who were not our target customers, were scared to death that we were selling empty boxes, and they couldn’t imagine that we were going to devote ourselves to that,” said Kip. But he was able to develop relationships with manufactures, vendors, employees and customers and soon enough “everyone was conspiring on how to assist you.” His devotion to relationship-building and a win-win mindset with all people involved with his business – not just shareholders – “gives him an unassailable business advantage.” Watch the video and hear him explain it himself.
