Follow Your Dreams, Hone Your Craft, and Have Fun Along the Way

kids-at-baseball-gameThe marathon that is baseball’s regular season has come to an end, and the sprint that is the playoffs will begin in days. As a fan, I enjoy the regular season, but it’s the stories that tend to unfold during the course of the playoffs that are captivating. Heroes, villains, legends…the drama that is written in Fall baseball talks to something inside of me.

As a businessman, I see those stories through a different lens. The economics of baseball has long been a topic of great discussion and fascination in this country. For me, when I experience the events of playoff baseball, there’s a part of me that considers how the events will affect the compensation of the players involved when their next contract negotiation comes up. The fan in me doesn’t really care about that, but the economist in me finds it intriguing.

Whether it’s in baseball or executive life, monitoring compensation trends is something we all need to do. As our friends at PeopleTicker showed us in a recent article, MLB salaries have jumped exponentially. MLB players have cashed in big time. They do something they love, and they continually practice and learn new skills to stay ahead of their competition. One could not chase a dream any better than they have.

How about you? Are you doing all you can to further your business and career? At the beginning of every month I use this space to give you a look at the upcoming sessions of ExecuNet Master Class, hosted by Anthony Vlahos, ExecuNet’s CMO. Tony brings to our community some of the brightest minds in careers, business and leadership development for one hour a week of executive-level education.

Here’s a look at some of what we have scheduled in the next several weeks to help you follow your dreams, hone your craft, and to have fun along the way:

Reinventing YOU

Whether you’re changing functional roles, moving to a different office, or navigating a new promotion or assignment, business executives have to reinvent themselves all the time. How can you successfully reintroduce yourself to your existing contacts – and demonstrate your expertise to new colleagues?

In this Master Class session drawing on her book Reinventing You, Dorie Clark – an adjunct professor at Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business – will provide a step-by-step framework to think big about your professional goals and take control of your career. You’ll learn how to assess your unique strength, hone your professional reputation, and ensure others recognize the powerful contribution only you can make.

The Rapid Growth Blueprint: Three Steps to Unstoppable Momentum

As a small business owner, each and every day you get pulled in too many directions. Oftentimes, it’s in separate and conflicting directions, so how to grow your business? The result of this confusion is a scattered focus and incohesive strategy that prevents significant and sustained growth.

In this Master Class session led by international speaker, trainer, coach and mentor Matthew Pollard,  you will gain a complete understanding of the proven steps to launching your business into rapid growth. This summer Matthew kicked off the highly successful Small Business Festival in Austin, Texas, and now he’s returning to the ExecuNet stage to help you differentiate your business from the competition with a unified message that intrigues your ideal audience. You will learn to systemize your sales process and identify your Rapid-Growth-Limiting Archetype.
