Executive Hiring by Industry—An Update

We surveyed recruiters in the last month and asked what the fastest growing industries in executive recruiting were expected to be over the next six months.

As usual, healthcare and pharmaceuticals were in the top five fastest growing markets but multiple other industries moved into the top 10 in the last year:  Consumer Products, Transportation/Distribution, and Communications.

  Rank Rank Rank
Industry Oct’2020 Oct’2019 Change
Healthcare 1 1
Pharma/Medical Devices/Bio-tech 2 4 +2
Technology 3 2
Manufacturing 4 3
Consumer Products 5 11 +6
Financial Services 6 7
Software 7 10 +3
Transportation/Distribution 8 12 +4
Clean/Green Technology 9 5 -4
Communications 10 14 +4

Those falling out of the top 10 were Business Services, Internet and e-Commerce and Venture Capital/Private Equity.

Those devastated by the last six months were Aerospace/Hospitality, Retail and Travel for obvious reasons.

We will keep you posted on changes in growth over the next couple of months as the pandemic unfolds and the vaccine opens new doors to change.
