Common Strategy Derailers

woman-with-fingers-crossedMost CEOs would tell you that the ability to implement strategy is their number one challenge ahead of innovation and even top-line growth. According to success strategist and change catalyst Kristine Gunn strategy execution is so difficult that three-quarters of large organizations struggle to implement their strategies.

Kristin led an ExecuNet Master Class to discuss closing the gap between strategic intent and actual results. In her presentation, she identified these common strategy derailers:

  • The strategy is unclear
  • Lack of meaning
  • Too many competing priorities
  • No process in place to break down the strategy and keep it alive and dynamic
  • No involvement
  • No follow through

Too many leaders, she said, think that once a strategy is identified people are just going to do what they are supposed to do. unfortunately it doesn’t work that way.

Listen to Kristine talk about common strategy derailers in this excerpt from her presentation.
