Caught in the Web: Virtual Distance and the True Secrets to Success in the Digital Age

sprider-web-businessmanDr. Karen Sobel Lojeski had been using social media in its earliest forms for 10 years, when in 2002, she left a Wall Street career to pursue a Ph.D. Something had been bothering her. We had sophisticated abilities to talk, interact and connect people but she noticed problems with people, and especially, with teams. Despite all the whirring gizmos that allowed them to talk to one another, people were more dysfunctional than ever.

She set out to not only investigate this phenomenon but actually measure it. And it was through that investigation that she discovered something she now calls Virtual Distance, which is the separation that is forming between people thanks to our increasing reliance on technology.
